For An Unforgettable Experience Visit The Island of Halki

The Greek island of Halki, is part of the Dodecanese island group, the island is also known as ‘Center of Peace and Friendship’. With only one inhabited village and one deserted one, this island is the perfect place to leave your worries behind and truly get away from it all.

The inhabited village of Nimborio serves as the islands capital, has a beautiful enclosed bay and neo-classical architecture, and a beautiful Byzantine Church. The islands single village offers shops and taverns, but no disco’s.

If you are looking for something more wild you can walk along the islands one paved road or hike off this beaten path and explore the ruins of the old village of Chroio. The old village is centered around a hill which has the ruins of an ancient Crusader’s castle. The abandoned homes and fortress provide interesting architecture and history for you to explore.

Beekeeping is a cottage industry on the island, where bees are raised for honey and wax. Oregano and white marjoram grow wild, and are picked by the islanders. Many small beaches are invitingly lapped by turquoise waters. The island is home to nearly 6000 goats, 14 types of butterflies and 40 different kinds of birds.
