Experience The Greek Island Of Peace and Tranquility
There-s no sense trying to relax and get away from it all if your vacation spot is full of people, traffic and industrial noises. For vacationers that need peace and tranquility to help recharge their batteries, Halki offers an excellent island retreat.
Away from the pressures of mainland Greece, Halti contains only one village named Nimporino. The closest neighbor is the island of Rhodes. After traveling to Rhodes, vacationers take a scenic ferry boat to Halki. Travel around the 28 square kilometer island is done by foot, by donkey or by boat. Only a handful of cars are allowed on the island in order to keep it pristine and tranquil.
Halki offers excellent beaches, gentle mountain slopes and about 6000 feral goats, which is several times the human population of about 250. Halki-s former village, Chorio, features an abandoned Midaeval castle and a Byzantine church. The locals make their living through tourism and fishing.
Travelers will be assured of a good night sleep because discos and loud night life are forbidden on Halki. But if feeling in a party mood, travelers can take the ferry to Rhodes. Be sure to bring cash, traveler-s checks or credit cards, as there is only one ATM machine on the island and no banks.
